Insomnia is, simply put, the lack of sleep. Regardless of the reasons you might not be sleeping right now, you have to know that insomnia is not something that will hold you prisoner. There are some real steps you can take to be sure that you start to sleep again. Here are just some of the things you can do to get rid of insomnia.

There are a number of methods you can try in order to help you sleep. You could try some muscle relaxation techniques, which there are CDs for. Yoga can relax the mind as well as the body. Deep breathing exercises are another great way to help your body relax, and rid your mind of stress.

Try wiggling your toes when youre battling insomnia. It may seem like a simple (and silly) thing, but toe wiggling actually helps your entire body to relax, just like a foot massage would. If youre lying in bed and suffering from lack of sleep, why not give it a try to see if it works for you.

If youve tried everything else for your insomnia, why not consider self-hypnosis? Talking yourself into a state of sleepiness can mean falling asleep much faster. You could also play recordings of a hypnotist which are geared to this purpose. The repetitive words in a calm voice should help you work around the insomnia.

Make sure that you follow medication directions directly for the best results. Even if you feel like a medication isnt working, taking more than directed can really make things even more difficult. Some sleeping medications are addictive, and some have negative side effects when you take too many of them.

Many people think distractions like music, TV, or light boost insomnia, try using classical music. Playing beautiful classical music has helped many people find the restful sleep they need. It can help your body calm down and find sleep.

Exercise

Do not use your bedroom for any activity other than sleep. Working at a desk in your bedroom is particularly bad for insomniacs. Do not keep exercise equipment, computers, even iron and ironing board out of the room. Replace them with relaxing items, such as soft lighting, candles or soothing music.

Want a good nights sleep? Try exercising. Its been shown to improve your sleep. However, it should be noted that any kind of exercise before bed can actually stimulate you. Exercising should be limited to no closer than three hours before you crawl into bed.

If insomnia is an issue for you, avoid exercising right before bedtime. Exercise stimulates your metabolism, so if you dont already sleep soundly, then exercising the last few hours of the day is a bad idea. Staying calm helps promote sleep and fight against insomnia.

Start regular exercise to combat insomnia. Many people face stress and tension throughout the day. Without a good release, these feelings can compound as bed time draws near. Set a regular schedule of walking, running or exercise for a short time each day, that can relieve these tensions and allow your mind and body to unwind properly.

Nutrition

Drink copious amounts of vitamin D during the day to help with your sleep. This vitamin will help your muscles relax and strengthen your bones during the night. This will also reduce the tension that is caused by lack of nutrition, which will make you feel more comfortable as the night wears on.

After reading all the tips laid out here, you should feel better about your insomnia. There are a lot of people out there who have a hard time sleeping as you do, and if you can work on using the tips in this article, you wont be one of them for long. Good luck!
